The NSW Dams Safety Committee (DSC) was constituted by the NSW Government under the NSW Dams Safety Act 1978 to ensure the safety of dams in NSW.
Mission Statement
The mission of the NSW Dams Safety Committee (DSC) is to ensure the safety of dams.
Vision and Key Goals
The vision of the DSC is that:

All dams meet a level of safety that is acceptable to the community; and

We inspire confidence in our stakeholders and are recognized for our technical excellence.
To implement this vision, the DSC has adopted the following key goals.

Ensuring the DSC functions under the Dams Safety Act and Mining Act are met;
Formulation of measures to ensure the safety of dams and promotion of the progressive reduction of risk across all prescribed dams;

Ongoing examination and audit of the safety management of prescribed dams;

Maintenance of a relevant and current knowledge of the safety status of NSW dams;

Promotion of dam safety awareness through the direction, education and training of stakeholders; and
-
Continual improvement of the DSC's effectiveness in managing its resources (eg staffing and budgets).
Roles / Functions
Relevant to its mission statement, the roles of the DSC are to:

Protect the safety, welfare and interests of the community from dam failure by ensuring that risks from prescribed dams are tolerable;
-
Ensure that DSC requirements are met, that risk are regularly reviewed, and further reduced if reasonably practicable; and
-
Protect the security of dams and their stored waters from the effects of mining or other activities.
