Brian Cooper, Chairman

Appointed to June 2017. Initially appointed 1997.

Brian Cooper  

In 2006 Brian retired from his position as Principal Engineer, Dams Safety, with the then Department of Commerce and now practices as a private dam safety consultant with over 40 years water industry experience including extensive dam design works with the Department of Public Works and Services and the Water Resources Commission.

In April 2009 he was appointed as the Chairman of the Dams Safety Committee.

     

Sam Banzi

Sam, currently the Manager Asset Engineering and Dam Safety within WaterNSW, has more than 20 years of experience in engineering, investigation, surveillance, construction and whole of life planning of dam structures. Sam's recent experience as a senior dams practitioner has been obtained from large businesses including Snowy Hydro Limited, Hydro Tasmania Ltd and SA Water Corporation. Sam is responsible for the overall management of dam safety within WaterNSW and was previously a member of the DSC's Surveillance Sub-Committee from 2007 to 2012.

     
     

Bill Barraclough

Bill Barraclough  

Bill has 20 years operational experience in coal mines predominantly in the southern coalfields of NSW.  For the last 14 years he has worked with the Mine Safety Operations unit of the NSW Department of Trade and Investment (Dept. of Industry from 1st July 2015) and currently holds the position of South East Area Manager and Senior Inspector.

He is the Chair of the DSC's Mining Sub-Committee as of February 2016.

Jeff Gleeson  

Jeff is Senior Consultant with hunterh2o. He has over 35 years experience in the water and waste-water field with involvement in various aspects of dam engineering and structural design. Jeff is a long serving member of the DSC's Surveillance Sub-committee. He also lectures part-time in engineering at the University of Newcastle.

In February 2015 he was re-elected as Deputy Chair of the Dams Safety Committee. He is also a member of the DSC's Surveillance Sub-Committee.

     

Norman Himsley

Appointed to June 2017. Initially appointed 2009.

In 2009 Norm retired as Executive Engineer of the NSW Dams Safety Committee and now practices as a private dam safety consultant. He has over 40 years experience in the water and construction industry and extensive involvement in the investigation, design and construction of dams. Norm sits on two ANCOLD working group committees, including for a period as chair of its Professional Development Working Group.

He is the Chairman of the DSC's Surveillance Sub-Committee, and Chairman of the Hydrology Sub-Committee.

     

Dene Jamieson
BE (Civil)

Appointed to June 2017. Initially appointed 2009.

Dene Jamieson  

Dene is Principal Engineer in the Dams and Civil Section of NSW Public Works and has over 30 years experience in dams and the water industry.

He is a member of the DSC's Emergency Management Sub-Committee.

 

     

John Sukkar

Appointed to June 2017. Initially appointed 2014.

Sukkar  

John is the Dam Safety & Surveillance Manager with WaterNSW. He is currently responsible for the safety management of dams owned by WaterNSW, a state owned corporation. He has over 25 years experience in the investigation, design, construction and dam safety management of dams, weirs, hydraulic regulation structures, fishways and other civil works.

He has been a member of the DSC Surveillance Sub-Committee since 2011.
