Your Annual Safety Standards Report is due
All declared dam owners are required to publish a report that shows their efforts over the year to manage dam safety. The annual Safety Standards Report is a new requirement for dam owners and the first report covering the 2021 calendar year is due by 31 March 2022. The report is not only submitted to Dams Safety NSW, dam owners need to keep a copy at their office and publish it on their website (if they have one) for members of the public to view. The information gathered from the reports will also help Dams Safety NSW to prioritise our compliance activities for the following year, focussing on areas that need the most attention to help make the NSW community safer.
Dam owners will be asked to confirm that they have a safety system and plans in place to manage any potential risks from the dam. It will also provide details of incidents that have occurred over the last year and emergency exercises to test the safety system. Every declared dam in NSW will have its own annual Safety Standards Report – even where a single system is shared by multiple dams.
We encourage declared dam owners to read our annual dam safety standards report fact sheet and familiarise themselves with the information they need to complete the report. Please use this fillable PDF form for your report/s. Dam owners can email the report forms to Dams Safety NSW at info@damsafety.nsw.gov.au.
We know that NSW dam owners value their investment and take care of their dams. The new regulation and its safety system requirements will help us to keep it that way, and ensure that the considerable efforts of responsible dam owners are appreciated. Our auditors and staff welcome your questions about this report and all other dam safety requirements. If you have specific questions about the report, please call our Governance and Assurance Manager, Peter Boyd, on 0418 259 984 or email info@damsafety.nsw.gov.au.
