This Dams Safety NSW online Q & A forum gave stakeholders the chance to hear about how recent NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) changes will impact declared dam emergency planning.
The forum covered the:
- new dam summary information sheet for emergency plans (the template dam owners must use and when to include it)
- updated DSNSW Emergency plans guideline
- new Australian Warning System (AWS).

Consultants' forum on preparing risk reports for declared dams - 16 August 2023
The Dams Safety NSW consultants’ forum gave engineering consultants the chance to ask the regulator questions about new legislative requirements related to risk reports for declared dams.
Principal Dams Safety Engineer, Jason Porter, and Governance and Assurance Manager, Peter Boyd, talk about Dams Safety NSW’s expectations on how declared dam risk reports should be prepared so that the reports comply with the regulation.
Under the Dams Safety Regulation 2019, a risk report is a written report that dam owners must produce on all foreseeable risks to their declared dam.

Conducting a dam emergency exercise - 23 June 2023
Declared dam owners in NSW are legally required to conduct an emergency exercise for their dam. These emergency exercises play an important role in risk mitigation and making sure you're prepared in the unlikely event of a dam failure. NSW legislation requires that at least one emergency exercise must have been conducted for NSW declared dams before 1 November 2024.
